Kalman Samuels, Q.C.

Kalman Samuels was an iconic attorney for the practice of law in Canada. He was a gentleman in negotiations but a tiger in the courtroom. He was always tremendously respectful to judges, many of whom had become so familiar with him that they would call him by his first name after decades of hearing him plead. In the days before the internet, he was the face of international family law in Quebec. As a member and leader of many international lawyer’s association, he was the go-to person for foreign attorneys who had matters that concerned the Quebec jurisdiction. Through hard work, determination and integrity, he built with his wife and fellow attorney Stella Samuels a boutique law firm that punched far above its weight class, and that continues to do so to this day.

Kalman Samuels was appointed a Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) in 1973, and went on to hold countless positions of leadership in the local and international communities, including but not limited to the posts of Honorary Consul for Yugoslavia in Montreal, Honorary Consul for Serbia in Montreal, Governor of the American Association of Justice (AAJ); Fellow and Governor of International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Certified Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Trustee of the Fondation du Barreau, Governor of the Fondation du Barreau, Trustee of the Jewish General Hospital Foundation, Board Member of the University Club of Montreal, Board Member of the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association, Director of the Vermont Public Television, Founder of the Dominion Executives Association Montreal Chapter, and we are certainly missing many, many others!

Kalman Samuels, Q.C. will continue to serve as an enduring inspiration to those attorneys who endeavor to continue his legacy of dedicated service to our clients.
