Before her career in law, Me Robidas-Afshari completed studies in psychology at McGill University with minors in sociology and behavioral sciences. Her interests in psychology and mental health have certainly been a great asset to her practice of law.
Me Robidas-Afshari subsequently decided to follow her true passion for the law. She has a background in both Canadian legal systems – Common Law and Civil Law. She started her career at the law firm Kalman Samuels as a law intern and decided to then join the team as a lawyer in family and civil law. Me Robidas-Afshari is a devoted lawyer and distinguishes herself by her perseverance and her desire to provided quality legal services. Given her background in psychology and sociology, she has proven herself especially apt for handling the most delicate files involving physical and psychological abuse. Her calm and thoroughly professional pleading style have been instrumental in obtaining both moral and punitive damages for her clients in very difficult cases.
Sarah Robidas-Afshari has been very implicated in her community in order to promote access to justice. She volunteered at a legal clinic where she assisted the members of the team in accomplishing various legal files. She was a Civil Rights Counselor for an organization that promotes racial equality. Me Robidas-Afshari also volunteered at the McGill University Health Care Center at the Montreal General Hospital by providing support for patients undergoing dialysis treatment. Me Robidas-Afshari is not only passionate about the law but has a long-time interest in mental health and represents several long term clients who have the challenge of maintaining their personal dignity while being diagnosed with a mental condition.
Sarah Robidas-Afshari seeks to promote the defense of vulnerable individuals and the protection of human rights in Quebec. This devotion has helped her obtain noteworthy results in the area of conjugal violence.
As with all the attorneys at the Law Firm of Kalman Samuels, Attorneys, Sarah Robidas Afshari is comfortable pleading all aspects of Family law. She has, however, distinguished herself in other areas as well.
In a highly mediatized victory, Sarah Robidas-Afshari and the Kalman Samuels Team have obtained significant Moral and Punitive damages, breaking records in Quebec and in Canada, in a case of conjugal violence. The media reported several activists rejoicing that a ‘door to justice has been opened’ in cases of spousal abuse.
Sarah Robidas-Afshari is also one of the few Montreal attorneys to have obtained damages in a defamation case. Using a psychosocial expertise and witness testimony, she was able to demonstrate the painful effects that defamation were having on her client who had immigrated to Canada and who was struggling to establish herself and build up her reputation in the professional world. Attorney Robidas-Afshari was able to obtain both moral and punitive damages, as well as an injunction against the defendant.
